If you want to benefit from my 10+ years of
Internet Entrepreneur/Website experience, then stay here and get
some of my best tips. That's because creating a domain name from scratch is so brain dead easy to
remember, effective, catchy and basically - Great.
It's really obvious, that Your domain name should convey your
product/service/passion.
So for example, if your product is called ABC123 Sexy Killer Slobber Mouth Secrets
then your domain should be ABC123SexyKillerSlobberMouthSecrets.com. That
way people will remember your site and product. But hold on...
There are some issues with that example...which are too in-depth to get into. So, you'll have to get my guide
Avoid '-' dashes
So
They are lame. Do you really have a good reason to
use these? It's sometimes not easy to remember sites that
have a '-' in them. Ask yourself..., which one
of these looks and sounds better -
www.ABC123SexyKillerSlobberMouthSecrets.com
or
www.ABC-123-Sexy-Killer-Sobber-Mouth-Secrets.com
? Do you think you'll survive the frustrating process of telling your friends the
name of your site over and over? ABC123SexyKillerSlobberMouthSecrets dot com
or ABC DASH 123 DASH Sexy DASH Killer DASH Slobber DASH Mouth DASH Secrets dot com?
Avoid funny domain extensions
such as .tv, .biz, .cc.
Do you have a good reason to use these? Ok, well maybe a .Tv is cool.
Just Stick with the standard .COM.
extension. Let's face it....even a monkey knows what a .COM is.
That's because it's the easiest to
remember.
If the .Com/domain name that you want has been taken,
then choose a different name.
There
are many combinations you can experiment with.
Keep it as short and simple It's not that difficult to create a short domain name... because in this case
the rule of thumb is - the shorter the better. The lesser the words...
the better.
Here are few examples of
short and simple domains that I've helped a few clients dream up
- LindaConklin.com, ToBeRaw.com,
FalsePrion.com.
Email addresses are an additional reason to
keep it short...because you'll avoid the cardinal sin of having an ultra long painful to the eyes email address. Plus... it'll look simpler e.g. - greg@PleaseShortenThisReallyLongAssDomainItIsWayTooLong.com.
I think your domain should be catchy - Don't you?
You should get very intimate with POWER WORDS. Power words are words such
as "secrets", "amazing", "Top", "Killer". If you want
to see a complete list of power words & phrases...then download
this list of power words. You'll get a rich, vibrant
pack of powerful words & phrases ("swipefiles"). Use them to your
heart's content.
"Uniqueness" & Branding just like Everybody else. Uniqueness means that if your product is called ABC123
Killer Sexy Secrets, then you'd surely want to register that .COM,
.NET, ORG fast as possible
Get all of the other domain extensions to...so
you're the only person who has the name.
You can use
these simple guidelines right now. You can avoid making the painful, demoralizing
costly mistakes of creating a domain name. If you follow these simple
tips, then you'll surely get people to remember your site.
